Contact and Convergence with Abaqus/Standard

SIMULIA004 SIMULIA
Course ID SIMULIA004
Type Seminar
Target

In this course, detailed informations are given with respect to contact and achieving convergence in nonlinear problems with Abaqus/Standard. The simulation of highly nonlinear phenomena occasionally requires the use of special modeling techniques. Based on practical examples, typical models where contact and convergence problems are to be expected are presented in this seminar - possible solutions are discussed.

Target group

The course is created for engineers who already have experience with structural analysis using Abaqus.

Requirement

Basic knowledge of the finite element method (FEM) and structural dynamics is assumed. The course is a supplement to Introduction to Abaqus/Standart and -/Explicit.

Content

The following topics are covered:

  • Understanding how nonlinear problems are solved in Abaqus
  • Creation of converging finite-element-models
  • Identification of possible modeling errors in case of convergence difficulties
  • Definition of general contact and contact pairs in Abaqus/Standard
  • Definition of suitable surfaces (rigid or deformable)
  • Modeling of contacts with friction
  • Finite/large sliding between deformable bodies
  • Dissolving penetrations using interference fit
