End-to-end connection of business processes in design and production

at Nurol Makina

Provide data in an automated and loss-free manner

The defence company Nurol Makina was looking for a way to optimize the transition between design and production planning. To achieve this, process structures and objectives had to be defined and complete data transfer had to be ensured. The transformation to end-to-end processes paved the way for improved collaboration between all areas of the company. The project is part of the goal of improving the consistency of data and information in business processes throughout the entire company.

Business challenge

Business challenge

Cost reduction

A lack of data exchange between engineering, production planning and service/support caused excessive process costs.

Process efficiency

The opportunities of the cloud could not yet be fully realized because departmental thinking prevailed.

Compliance

There was a concern to increase transparency in the processes to facilitate traceability.

Good collaboration

In order to implement end-to-end processes, silos had to be overcome.

Customer goals

Customer goals

Consistent, complete data and information in production

  • Until now, there has been too little data exchange between design and production.
  • Specifically, data such as material and parts lists needed to be transferred automatically and without loss from design to production planning.
  • The goal: Another milestone for business processes with better data and information.

Integrating the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and SAP S/4HANA

  • Applications from development and production were not fully connected and were therefore unable to realize their potential.
  • An integration should enable direct data exchange between the two systems.
  • The aim: Use complete object data from design in other areas such as purchasing, materials management and production.

Using PLM objects in SAP

  • Make PLM objects from the 3DEXPERIENCE platform available in classic SAP ERP applications such as purchasing, materials management and production
  • Goal: Create the basis for comprehensive project control, such as for change management

Nurol Makina's path to end-to-end processes

With the 3DEXPERIENCE platform from Dassault Systèmes and SAP S/4HANA, Nurol Makina opted for modern cloud solutions early on - since 2018. However, important potential of the applications remained untapped as there was hardly any data exchange between the design, production planning and service/support departments. Processes were limited to individual departments and could hardly be optimized to save costs.

For this reason, we started the project by clarifying the basic meanings and functions of the end-to-end process chains. We designed the workflows of each process according to previously defined structures and objectives and redefined the management requirements of the departments in favor of a federated approach. It had to be taken into account that Nurol Makina had previously worked with different providers for its PLM/ERP environment.

Within the project work, the focus was on drafting a "Big PLM Picture", which defined objectives in relation to processes and individual use cases. These were then assigned to individual project phases and the IT components required for implementation were determined. We ensured digital maturity for cross-platform process management with our two solutions, the 3DEXPERIENCE-SAP integration and cenitCONNECT Advanced Process Management. "We made sure that the processes became transparent," explains Michael Drews from CENIT, Senior Account Executive SAP Solutions.
